I spent this last weekend in Chicago at an accreditation conference. My school is up for accreditation review during the next year. I somehow accepted the request to co-chair our self-study review. I have not regretted the decision to accept the responsibility, but I sure would love to have this time for other things.
The conference was very informative. I learned a lot of things I needed to know. I'm glad I went.
However, I sadly was unable to enjoy Chicago. I went with 3 colleagues. We spent all of our time going to conference sessions or working on our self-study (usually over a drink in the hotel bar). We had no time to explore Chi-town. This really sucked because one of my colleagues lived in Chicago for 5 years and knows everything. He would have been a great guide.
That is my only regret. I wanted to essentially explore Chicago, but never got to.

Oh and did I mention my brother lives there (I drove within 5 miles of his house) and would have loved to enjoy a beer - but I didn't tell him I was coming...
I love Chicago.
I have nothing else to add. Just that I love Chicago.
I knew this was going to come up.
#1 I thought you lived in Ithaca
#2 I wasn't driving
#3 We had no free time
#4 etc.....
Sorry.
Aaaaah mjenks,
I buried another split infinitive in this post just to boldly annoy you.
You didn't mention it. Maybe you are just trying to be polite.
I promise, no more inappropriate split infinitives. I will, however, continue to slaughter the English language in other ways.
Yeah, well...I noticed the other day that in one of my posts, I had written an inappropriate "it's", and so now I feel it would highly hypocritical of me to essentially explore the grammatical butchering of the English language.
I also noticed, by the way, that you ended that sentence with a preposition. Tsk tsk.
*crawls back under his hypocritical grammar rock*
yup, I left a few grammatical bombs in there on purpose. What I'm worried about are the ones I left without noticing.
Never been to Chicago. Might end up there for a few years, though...who knows? If that's the case, you're obligated to split a pitcher or two* with me (and any other chemists I can scare up) next time you go there.
*I'm definitely a lightweight.
It's a deal.
I worked for over 6 months helping to start up the gas turbine power plant in Channahon/Minooka (about 5-10 miles SW of Joliet), and only managed to make it to Chi-town twice. 12-hour days, 6-7 days/week is exhausting! I'm with you though, I want to go back to visit and actually enjoy myself.
*Do chemical engineers count? If so, I'm in...
*Chem Es are cool! NO BIOLOGISTS, though.
