Ant Farm... Day five: The obsession

I'm obsessed with my ant farm. I'm totally fascinated by my six-legged minions, and their tunneling capabilities.

here are the latest pictures:

I also did a little research and found that the gel is actually agar.

So far none of the ants are dead. They have made a cavernous home at the very bottom of the ant farm.

I'm still waiting for crops.

So is the agar a food as well as a substrate for tunneling?

I think so. I'm still trying to determine what the actual ingredients are and in what amounts, but they do get sustenance from the agar.

Since they're literally surrounded by food, they'll probably just sit in their cavern and become obese. Maybe you could drip a little homebrew down their tunnels so they don't get jealous.

This is really cool! But I keep giggling to myself that you're creating some mutant army to take over the world. I don't know why I find my eventual destruction or domination funny, but I do.

Gwen, did I forget to mention that my ant farm is actually 20 feet tall? Yeah, watch out.

How do you know there aren't any dead? Maybe they've just been eating the dead ones because they have no other food source available.
